The Perils of Distance 11/10/2009
http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1936900_1936910_1936991,00.html In this classic 1975 skit, a determined Grover stops at nothing to demonstrate the difference between near and far by running back and forth as fast as he can, bellowing out the terms at each end of a spacious room. The Muppet grows exasperated and exhausted when his viewers need him to repeat the lesson again and again. The premise was simple, but the sketch resonated. Not only did it reappear several times on Sesame Street, but Grover also performed it with Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show in the '70s. The bit was also referenced in a 2009 episode of Scrubs. Rubber Duckie, You're the One 11/10/2009
http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1936900_1936910_1936993,00.html Ernie's classic ode to bath-time toys, written by Jeff Moss, debuted in a February 1970 episode and garnered fame well beyond Sesame Street. The catchy tune reached No. 16 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart and nearly won a Grammy, earning a 1971 nomination for Best Recording for Children. (It lost out to The Sesame Street Book & Record, which itself contained the song.) The song's popularity had legs too: seven years later, a disco version of the song was included on the album Sesame Street Fever. We're guessing someone might like to have that decision back. Snuffy Revealed 11/10/2009
http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1936900_1936910_1936974,00.html First introduced to viewers on Nov. 8, 1971, Aloysius Snuffleupagus, the woolly mammoth better known as Snuffy, was an "imaginary friend" of Big Bird's for nearly 15 years. In a long-running series of gags, the show's favorite feathered friend unsuccessfully tried to introduce Snuffy to the rest of the neighborhood, leading to accusations that Big Bird wasn't telling the truth. (In one episode, Snuffy quietly joins a game of follow the leader, but none of the adults see him because he's last in line and leaves before the game is over.) But in 1985, the show's producers opted to end the charade — a decision they made partly because of a 60 Minutes series on molested children. "In this day of child abuse, we felt it important for children to feel they could talk to adults and be believed," the show's executive producer, Dulcy Singer, said at the time. "We didn't want to do anything to discourage children from going to their parents." It Ain't Easy Being Green 11/10/2009
http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1936900_1936910_1937033,00.html Though he's best known for his role on The Muppet Show (and his romantic involvement with swine), Kermit the Frog mesmerized young audiences on Sesame Street in 1970 with the tender tune "Bein' Green." The ditty, voiced by Jim Henson and written by Joe Raposo (the same man behind "C Is for Cookie"), won praise for its fun, graceful treatment of subjects like race, individuality and self-acceptance. "It's not that easy bein' green/ Having to spend each day the color of the leaves/ When I think it could be nicer bein' red or yellow or gold/ Or something much more colorful like that," Henson sang. Since then, the melancholy ballad has been performed by Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett and fellow pea-colored Muppet Oscar the Grouch. And to think, the song grew out of a simple request by one of the show's producers: "We need a song for the frog." Top 10 Sesame Street Moments (Time.Com) 11/10/2009

Guinness my pwet (no pun intended) 11/09/2009
40 Years of Searching for Sunny Days 11/03/2009
The quest - and faith - for that sunny day is just too hopeful it makes me want to believe that it exists. Ganyan ang perspective ko noon. Until I met someone from Sesame Street. Masarap silang pambalanse ng world view. So today, I'd like to propose a toast for the street's 40th anniversary. Yes, I am where the air is sweet. Bayani Fernando for President 10/28/2009
Enough of that.
